Oprah Winfrey enthralls literary lovers at the 5th DSC Jaipur Literature Festival

The third day of the 5th DSC Jaipur Literature Festival was indeed the epicenter of literary confluence with over 18,000 literary lovers come together at the Diggi Palace. The key highlight of the day was the visit of Oprah Winfrey to the festival.

Oprah said ‘I have not just had my mind opened but an expanded heart as a result of being in India, because I am at the centre of something greater than myself, and that my trip has been ‘one of the greatest, if not the greatest life experience that I have ever have.’ She promised the festival audience that she would come back, as there was more and more to see and understand. She added, ‘I held it as my vision’ to come to India for the last three years, and I love ‘the sense of calmness,’ ‘a sense of karma: people don’t just talk religion here, they live it,’ and ‘the sense of family tradition’ so evident in this country.”

She talked movingly about her work with children and women, talking of how profoundly she was affected by the situation of widows in India, and how she hoped there would be a shift in consciousness towards them.

She talked of the value of education so that people have choices, and her work in building a Leadership Academy for girls in Africa, saying how important it is to give whatever you have, so that the energy of yourself goes out into the world. She also talked about how she had been inspired to start a Book Club, because ‘I love to read.’ Her book club promotes both modern literature and the classics that Oprah personally recommends. मानव संसाधन विकास मंत्री कपिल सिब्बल जयपुर लिटरेचर फेस्टिवल में शनिवार दोपहर भारी भीड़ में करीब 15 मिनट कतार में खड़े रहने के बाद दरबार हॉल में एंट्री होने से पहले ही लौट गए। वे भारी भीड़ में धक्का-मुक्की के बीच जैसे-तैसे हॉल के एंट्री पाइंट पर पहुंचे, लेकिन आगे कोई जगह नहीं बनती देख ‘ओह शट्’ बोल गुस्साते हुए पीछे मुड़ लिए।

वे करीब साढ़े तीन बजे दरबार हॉल पहुंचे। यहां भीड़ इस कदर थी कि उन्हें कतार में लगना पड़ा। धक्का-मुक्की के बीच वे हॉल के एंट्री पाइंट पर पहुंच गए, लेकिन सामने से आयोजन से जुड़े कुछ लोगों ने अंदर जगह न होने का इशारा करते हुए हाथ खड़े कर दिए। इस दौरान कुछ महिलाएं और युवा रास्ता बनाकर अंदर घुस गए।

सिब्बल को कुछ सुरक्षाकर्मियों ने अंदर पहुंचाने का प्रयास किया, लेकिन भारी भीड़ के कारण वे भी कामयाब नहीं हो सके। इसी दौरान तमतमाए सिब्बल पीछे मुड़कर चल दिए। हालत यह थी लौटते वक्त भी उन्हें भारी धक्का-मुक्की के बीच से गुजरना पड़ा।

There was some dispute between Gandhi and Ambedkar

In the Litreture festival writers focused on Anna's movement and Dalit movements by Gandhi and Ambedkar. Joseph Leliveld is writing book on Gandhi. He said that there was a dispute between Gandhi and ambedkar in London Round table confrence in 1931.Because Gandhi 's focus on social and politial issues but Ambedkar's focus only for giving judgement to Dalits. On this ocasion Famous Journalist M.J.Akbar added that Gandhi freed India from Fear. Social Activist Aruna Roy putted her view that people gathered with Anna at JANTAR-MANTAR for their judgement of their guilts.

You can be arrested if you read Rushdie's novel

It was a shocking e-mail to media from the organisors of Jaipur Litreture Festival. Some of delegates read some element of Rushdie's controversial book "Sainatik Vireses" that's why the mail was shooted to media and attendents. It was also said in mail that there should a lawsuit againest the writer who does the same.
There was a high whisper in all the attendents due to same and Writers Amitav Kumar and Hari Kunjru Quited the show.

At Last Salman Rusdie will not attend Jaipur Litreture festival

Due to latest controversies related to Salman Rushdue. He will not attend the DSC jaipur Litreture festival. As he said- For the last several days I have made no public comment about my proposed trip to the Jaipur Literary Festival at the request of the local authorities in Rajasthan, hoping that they would put in place such precautions as might be necessary to allow me to come and address the Festival audience in circumstances that were comfortable and safe for all.

I have now been informed by intelligence sources in Maharashtra and Rajasthan that paid assassins from the Mumbai underworld may be on their way to Jaipur to "eliminate" me. While I have some doubts about the accuracy of this intelligence, it would be irresponsible of me to come to the Festival in such circumstances; irresponsible to my family, to the festival audience, and to my fellow writers. I will therefore not travel to Jaipur as planned
